The sponsoring organization for the Canadian National Committee is the Canadian Association for the WPC (CAWPC). It includes some 60 sponsoring and associate members from the Canadian petroleum community and its supporting infrastructure organizations. The cost of activities of the Association is normally provided primarily through membership fees.

Developing national and international support for hosting a WPC is a considerable challenge and incurs substantial additional expense. The special costs of hosting the 16th Congress were generously accommodated by sponsoring members and other organizations; and from registration, exhibitor and event fees.

As the result of extensive volunteer and corporate support, Canada has continued to be one of the most active member countries of the WPC while maintaining costs to individual members at a modest level.

Participation by Canadians on WPC committees, as authors and sessions officers and attendance at the congresses develops an effective international communication network and builds recognition and goodwill for Canada in the international petroleum community. Opportunities for Canadian companies and professional and other skilled Canadians in the world petroleum industry are thereby enhanced.
