Lukas Albrecht is an accomplished commodities trader currently working at Balyasny Asset Management (BAM). In his current role, Lukas is responsible for integrating Western Canadian oil knowledge into the broader global portfolio, while also focusing on developing physical oil exposure for the enterprise.

Prior to BAM, Lukas worked at Castleton Commodities International, where he was a VP, Proprietary Crude Oil Trading, primarily focused on trading North American physical and financial oil, while also developing a physical oil business. Prior to his role at Castleton Commodities International, Lukas was an oil trader at Koch Industries’ refining subsidiary Flint Hills Resources, successfully developing and scaling a derivatives book to complement the refining business.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours and Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Calgary. He is a published author in Trade Theory, and a recipient of the Harry Johnson prize, providing a quantitative foundation for the recently signed Canadian Free Trade Agreement.

He is a chair for the World Petroleum Council Future Leaders Canada board where he perpetuates the message of responsible energy development. Lukas enjoys trekking, mountain biking and back country skiing in the Canadian Rockies with his wife Laura and an occasional violin concerto.
